We are doing our Rock Steady Boxing classes online using Zoom AND we are LIVE and in-person inside the great Boston Boxing Gym!
It's the best of both worlds - stay at home and train or come to the gym and train -- we are doing both!
Yup!
It might seem surprising and wildly unlikely, but boxing - specifically Rock Steady Boxing can help in the fight against Parkinson's.
Here's the 5 cent explanation -- Rock Steady Boxing is a uniquely designed program for people living with Parkinson's to fight back and reclaim their lives. This non-contact, boxing-inspired fitness routine is proving to dramatically improve the ability of people with Parkinson’s to live independent lives -- check out what our boxers have to say about it - Fighting Words
Rock Steady Boxing is fortunate enough to be held inside Boston Boxing & Fitness - this incredible gym has always been a leader in how boxing can change the lives of not only athletes, but those who have different kinds of fights ahead of them. From their after school program, to their substance abuse and recovery boxing programs - and the Boston Boxing team is thrilled to carry the fight to Parkinson's disease.
Every day we are learning that there are ways in which people with Parkinson’s disease can enhance their daily quality of life and even build impressive power, strength, flexibility and speed! By exercising with coaches who know the ropes, you can fight your way out of the corner and start to feel and function better.
Boxing works by moving your body in all planes of motion while continuously changing the routine as you progress through the workout. These classes have proven that anyone, at any level of Parkinson’s, can actually lessen their symptoms and lead a healthier/happier life.
You will need an assessment before you can take a RSB class.
The basic gist of the assessment is that you'll be given some balancing tests, and some walking tests etc – nothing strenuous and most of it will be stuff you’ve probably already done with your doctor.
You might even get cupcakes
Setting up an assessment is easy. You can set one up by phone (508-393-4763) or by email (todd@luckypunchboxing.com)
The cost of an assessment is $20 - and if you sign up we’ll simply waive the $20. The assessment itself usually takes around a half hour --- please feel free to bring someone along with you if you’d like.
Tuesday and Thursday classes are done LIVE in person AND simultaneously over Zoom
TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS (LIVE & Zoom)
10am to 11am
Monday and Friday classes are done LIVE over Zoom only (no gym)
MONDAYS & FRIDAYS (Zoom Only)
2pm to 3pm
Classes are sold in packages and you can use them as you like. They do not expire.
The beauty of Zoom is that you can do classes anywhere. From the safety and comfort of your own home or even being on vacation - no excuses for missing class - ha!
Come to class as often as you want/can. It is recommended that you take class twice a week for better results, but even once a week will be helpful.

Being in the gym is a whole different and unique experience. The heavy bags, the ring, the years of hard training, fights, blood, sweat, tears and victory permeate through the gym

Private Sessions / One On One Training can be done in-person or done over Zoom
We offer private boxing sessions as well as our new MOVEMENT & STRETCHING Private Session
These private sessions have been nicknamed "the stretching class" - and each session is designed to help with moving. Parkinson's shrinks your movements and makes your muscles tight - these one on one session are specifically designed to combat these symptoms using Animal Flow, boxing and MMA principles of whole-body full range of motion training (which requires simultaneous strength, control, fluidity and movement) - to assist with creating heightened body awareness and to help combat Parkinson's with big motions, lots of stretching and healthy movements.
If you're unfamiliar with Rock Steady Boxing - this 60 minutes piece with Lesley Stahl will be incredibly helpful! It's what got me involved -- 10 minutes and worth the watching
